Prosecutor in murder trial tells jury the crime scene was like a ‘horror film’

The lead prosecutor in a murder trial involving testimony about Satan told jurors Tuesday the crime scene was like a “horror film.”

The victim, Geneva Gomez, 33, was found by her boyfriend — bloody, beaten and lying on the floor of her mother’s house, according to testimony Tuesday. A crucifix was on her chest.

“She didn’t look anything like the woman that he loved,” Assistant District Attorney Suzanne Lavenue said during her opening statement in Oklahoma County District Court. “It scared him almost to death.”

The mother, Juanita Martinez Gomez, now 51, told police she forced a crucifix and religious medallion down her daughter’s throat while attempting to ridher of Satan, according to investigators. Juanita Martinez Gomez, of Oklahoma City, is charged with first-degree murder in the Aug. 27, 2016, killing.

Gomez has pleaded not guilty. Defense attorneys had given notice of plans to present an insanity defense at trial, but later chose not

Philadelphia’s top prosecutor admits corruption, will resign

PHILADELPHIA – In a surprise move, Philadelphia’s top prosecutor has pleaded guilty to a corruption charge and agreed to resign.

District Attorney Seth Williams pleaded guilty Thursday in federal court to a single count of accepting a bribe from a businessman.

The move came after weeks of damaging testimony against the two-term Democrat, who didn’t run for re-election this year.

The 50-year-old Williams was accused of illegally accepting gifts from businessmen in exchange for legal favours. He was also charged with fraudulently using thousands of dollars from his campaign fund for personal expenses, misusing city vehicles and misappropriating money intended to fund his mother’s nursing home care.

He had been charged with 29 counts of bribery, extortion and fraud.

Philly.com reports that although 28 counts were dismissed, a prosecutor said Williams admits he “committed all of the conduct.”

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Dylann Roof went to a historic black church in Charleston with a gun and a “hateful heart” and should be put to death for opening fire on people who had gathered for Bible study, a prosecutor said Tuesday.
