Another man’s confession, DNA evidence may pave way for new hearing in 1980 slaying

In 1980, someone killed the neighborhood Avon lady, Emily Leo, in Chester, Pennsylvania. By all accounts, it was a brutal crime — she’d been lured with the promise of a sale and then bludgeoned to death.

A year later, a Philadelphia jury convicted 24-year-old Leroy Evans and 16-year-old Anthony Jones of crimes in Leo’s death that included first-degree murder, robbery, and tampering with evidence.

But Evans’ defense attorney, Michael Malloy, said the evidence presented at trial never quite matched the stories told.

“As I began to read the trial testimony, certain facts made no sense,” he said. “First of all, why was there no blood present at a brutal, bloody crime scene.”

More than 30 years later, Malloy thinks he’s found that evidence — and that it clears Evans’ name. In 2016, Jones gave a nearly 70-page sworn statement, recanting his trial testimony that implicated Evans.

By lying to the jury, “I basically took

Men deny evidence tampering in bloody crime scene from late June

A Billings man is denying charges he removed bloody clothing and a garbage dumpster from a crime scene in late June.

Michael Scott Leclair, 35, is facing two felony counts of tampering with evidence related to an assault at a Heights home on June 28.

Investigators believe Leclair moved the bloody clothing and garbage dumpster “to an unknown location” to prevent police from finding them.

Detectives searching the scene at the Heights home discovered the area had been cleaned recently, but some blood stains remained on the staircase, baseboard and a speaker box.

Leclair has posted $50,000 bond and is on GPS monitoring.

Another man, William James Hoffert III, has been charged with evidence tampering in what appears to be the same case.

Hoffert appeared in court Thursday via video from the Yellowstone County jail and pleaded not guilty to two felony counts of evidence tampering and one felony count of criminal endangerment for a road

New evidence has cast doubt over conviction of Michael Stone guilty of notorious Chillenden murders

Doubt has been cast over the conviction of Michael Stone, who was found guilty of the notorious Chillenden murders, which shocked the nation.

Stone has always denied the charges but was found guilty of the brutal murder of Lin Russell and her six-year-old daughter Megan nearly two decades ago.

He was also convicted of the attempted murder of Lin’s other daughter Josie, then-nine, who suffered horrendous head injuries in the same attack but miraculously survived.

The Tunbridge Wells-born heroin addict, who lived in Medway at the time of his arrest, has spent 19 years behind bars, serving three life sentences for their deaths, but has always maintained his innocence.

He was found guilty after several appeals on the basis of a damning statement by fellow murderer Damian Daley, but now fresh evidence has cast doubt over the reliability of Daley’s testimony.

Van Breda murder trial hears horrific evidence

Marli van Breda, the former Perth schoolgirl who survived a horrific family massacre, put up a big fight against the axe-wielding culprit, judging by the defensive wounds she suffered, a pathologist told a South African court.

Harrowing evidence emerged this week in the Western Cape High Court, including that it likely took nearly three hours for Marli’s oldest brother Rudi van Breda to succumb to his massive injuries.

Their other sibling, Henri van Breda, is standing trial, after pleading not guilty to murdering their parents Martin, 54, and Teresa, 55 and his 22-year-old brother Rudi as well as attempting to murder then-16-year-old Marli in the family’s home in the exclusive De Zalze estate in Stellenbosch in January 2015.

Forensic pathologist Dr Daphne Anthony said Marli had suffered multiple defensive wounds on her hands and
