Second arrest made years after Coral Spring man killed – WPLG

CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. – It’s been six years since the killing of Michael Hamilton, a man who was found dead in his Coral Springs apartment in what was described by police as a bloody crime scene.

“He was not an angry man. He was a kind, gentle soul,” the victim’s mother, Cathy Hamilton, said.

Cathy Hamilton and her husband now have a sense of closure amid the news that police have now nabbed two men in connection with her son’s murder.

“Losing a loved one to murder is never easy, and all those involved want to bring justice for the family of the victim. I am so grateful that we have two arrests in Michael’s case,” Cathy Hamilton said. “They are no longer among us, and they are now behind bars.”

Thanks to DNA evidence, Kadian Roper was arrested a few days ago and charged with first-degree murder.

DNA technique leads to break in Coral Springs homicide case

Coral Springs police had a complicated and unwieldy case on their hands in 2011, after restaurant worker Michael Todd Hamilton, 31, was stabbed multiple times and died in his apartment.

Out of hundreds of witnesses and persons of interest, more than 40 people had given detectives their DNA to compare to evidence left behind at the bloody crime scene.

“The investigation took us in many different directions,” Detective Sgt. Scott Myers, who oversaw the case, said during a press conference Monday. Last week, the agency made the second arrest in the capital homicide case that it said will be presented to a Broward County grand jury.

It took several years to isolate and identify suspects’ blood from what was found in Hamilton’s apartment in the 9800 block of Northwest 33rd Street.

CORAL SPRINGS, FLA. (WSVN) – A break in the 2011 case of a man found stabbed to death in his Coral Springs apartment has led to the arrest of two men.

Jason Martinez and Kadian Roper remain at the Broward County Jail charged with premeditated first-degree murder in connection to the July 2011 murder of Michael Hamilton.

Officials and the victim’s family addressed reporters on Monday. “The arrest of these two subjects has made our community a lot safer, and for that we are all eternally grateful,” said Coral Springs Police Deputy Chief Sean Becker.

DNA links second man to Coral Springs murder case, police say

After a six-year investigation, DNA recovered from spit and a juice bottle linked two men to the murder of a Coral Springs man, court documents say.

Jason David Martinez, 28, of New York, was arrested there in October and extradited to Broward County in February on suspicion of committing the 2011 stabbing murder of Michael Hamilton, 31, of Coral Springs.

Kadian Andre Garfield Roper, 37, of Coral Springs, was taken into custody Wednesday for the same offense. Both men are being held without bond in a Broward County jail.

Hamilton was last seen alive at 8: 30 p.m. July 9, 2011, at the apartment he shared with a roommate in the 9800 block of Northwest 33rd Street.
