Investigator | Prosecutors want death row inmate back behind bars for violent murder and rape – WKYC

Marty Flynn still remembers the silence…33 years later. The eerie silence belied the horror waiting inside an old Brooklyn duplex.

“I walked upstairs and looked in her room and found her on her bed.” It was his sister.

The scene was disturbing. Mary Anne Flynn, a 33-year-old nurse, was raped and strangled.

Cleveland Police quickly focused on neighbor Tony Apanovitch, a roughneck drinker with a sordid past of sex offenses. He once painted Flynn’s home, but she feared him.

But despite a bloody crime scene, there was no physical evidence…not yet anyway.

“Anthony Apanovitch is a violent killer and rapist,” says Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Michael O’Malley. “I have no doubt whatsoever about that.”

O’Malley says Apanovitch had already been convicted of forcibly raping a 16-year-old in 1976. But the conviction was reversed and he pleaded guilty to sexual battery.

After Disaster owner James Nunes-Vaz has never ever turned down a cleaning job.

The aftermath of people’s nightmares – treasured possessions lying burned, blackened and twisted, or blood soaking into a carpet – is all in a day’s work for James Nunes-Vaz.

He owns After Disaster, a New Plymouth-based company that cleans up when things go wrong. Any sort of wrong.

“We’ve made a point we’ll never turn anyone away. We’ll always find a way to fix it.”

Anthony Garcia case: Was revenge the motive behind Omaha …

Produced by Jaime Stolz and Marc Goldbaum

“To have anybody murdered is a shock to the community, but to have an 11-year-old boy and a housekeeper killed in the manner they were – I think is a whole ‘nother level,” Omaha Police Sgt. Scott Warner told CBS News correspondent Jim Axelrod.

In 2008, a community was shocked by the brutal stabbing deaths of Tom Hunter and Shirlee Sherman inside the Hunter family home. Police found no DNA, no signs of a robbery and little motive for someone to want them dead. Five years later and six miles away, tragedy struck again when Dr. Roger Brumback, and his wife, Mary, were found murdered in their home.

For the two law enforcement officers investigating the cases, the attack on the Brumbacks was eerily similar to what they found five years earlier with the Hunter and Sherman murders.

Investigators would find more similarities between the cases and

Can a videotape left behind by a dead sailor help NCIS solve a double murder?

Produced by Susan Mallie

In 1996, two Navy personnel were killed in a Virginia Beach apartment. The victims – Elise Makdessi and Quincy Brown – were coworkers at Oceana Naval Air Station. Makdessi’s husband, Eddie, said the couple had returned home from dinner and were accosted by Brown. Eddie Makdessi said Brown sexually assaulted and stabbed Elise. Eddie told police he was able to grab a gun and shoot Brown, but it was too late to save his wife.

Because two sailors had been murdered, NCIS was called to the crime scene that very night. With not one, but two of their own now dead, the agents would not rest until the mystery at the heart of this case was solved.

It would take 10 years as NCIS followed this twisting, turning tale that spanned two continents before coming to its stunning conclusion.

THE DOUBLE MURDER

Special Agent Brian Ricardo | NCIS, Retired: On May 15,
