SPRINGFIELD — A suspected gunman is in custody after three people were injured in a shooting Saturday in a Springfield apartment, Springfield police Lt. Scott McKee said.
About 6:30 p.m., officers responded to multiple reports of a dispute that involved gunfire in an apartment at Centennial Apartments at 506 W. Centennial Blvd. When the officers arrived, they found two trauma victims conscious at the base of a stairwell that leads to the second floor. One victim was shot in the chest, and another was shot in the arm.
The officers heard yelling and calls for help and immediately went to second-floor apartment No. 92, McKee said.
The officers used a large, handheld ballistic shield and forced entry into the apartment, McKee said.
Inside the apartment, they found the suspect struggling on the floor with another man, who was trying to detain him.
