A quiet neighborhood in Gentilly near Dillard University woke up Friday to a scene of stunning violence, with police reporting three people, including two young children, found killed inside of a home on Touro Street. Another victim was injured by a firearm and had been hospitalized.
Few details about killings were immediately available, but Police Superintendent Michael Harrison was on the scene Friday morning. “It really rattles everybody,” Harrison said. “That’s why you see us all out here.”
The coroner’s office identified those killed as Jumyrin Smith, 6; Justin Simms, 10; and Monique Smith, 30. All three were shot in the head, according to sources cited by WWL-TV.
At one point Friday morning, a crying man rushed toward the tan brick house, yelling “That’s my daughter! Those are my grandkids!” But he was held back by officers.
