Calif. man held in 2011 slayings of Columbia mother and daughter

A California man has been arrested in the 2011 slayings of a Columbia woman and her 3-year-old daughter, who were found dead at what officials described as a “gruesome” crime scene.

Kenneth Canzater, 33, of Perris, Calif., was arrested last week in California and will be charged with the murders of Candra Alston, 25, and her daughter Malaysia Boykin, police said Thursday. Columbia police officers arrested Canzater outside a motel in Corona, Calif., on March 23. He is jailed in Riverside, Calif., awaiting extradition.

Alston and Malaysia were found dead in Alston’s home at Brook Pines Apartments off Broad River Road on Jan. 9, 2011, in what Chief Skip Holbrook called “a truly horrific crime scene.” Holbrook said Alston was shot in the head, and Malaysia, known by family members as “La La,” had been stabbed multiple times.

Holbrook described Canzater as an acquaintance of Alston and said the

Police: Sacramento quadruple homicide suspect confessed to cousin

A week after a quadruple homicide stunned a south Land Park neighborhood, Sacramento police said the suspect initially confessed to the crime to his cousin.

Salvador Vasquez-Oliva, 56, called his cousin last week who then called police and repeated what he’d learned, Capt. Dave Peletta said.

“Our suspect had come to his house earlier in the morning and confessed to something very horrific,” Peletta said. “The complainant then called us and said, ‘It’s very unusual, he’s a relative of mine, but I hadn’t seen him for an extended period time. So, it was very odd that he would come here and throw this out on me.’”

When officers arrived at the home, they picked the lock and discovered, what Peletta described as, a “horrific crime scene.”

Peletta told this information to a group of neighbors gathered for a community meeting Wednesday night, six days after the

Fetty Wap Robbery, Bloody Crime Scene Images

0327-fetty-wap-crime-scene-tmz-wm-4Minutes after Fetty Wap‘s crew got into a shootout … one of the victims struggled to escape, before collapsing in a bloody scene.

TMZ obtained these images shot about 3 blocks away from the deli where the shots were fired. According to witnesses in the Paterson, NJ neighborhood … the unnamed victim collapsed against the Nissan and lay there moaning until police located him.

In this video, you can hear the officer on scene calling for medical assistance. A total of 3 people suffered gunshot wounds during the battle.

Fetty’s rival, Raheem Thomas, known as Fuzz, was arrested for gun possession and assault … but police have not said if he actually fired during the shootout. He was clearly seen holding a weapon during a fight moments before the shooting started.

Compensation for crime victims lacking in N.S.: Prof

Professor Benjamin Perrin is calling for immediate action from N.S. Premier Stephen McNeil to update laws and provisions around compensation and counselling for the victims of crimes and their families.

He took part in a three-year University of British Columbia study that shows only Nova Scotia and Newfoundland Labrador do not provide necessary funding and services.

“McNeil should immediately see that services — like counselling — are expanded and financial compensation is raised,” said Perrin, a law professor.

According to his new book, Victim Law: The Law of Victims of Crime in Canada, the province only provides $2,000 over two years for victims or their families, and $4,000 maximum for those who had a loved one who was murdered.

“The Federal Department of justice estimated $100 billion a year is the cost associated with crime in the country, and 83 per cent of that is born out of costs associated with helping victims,”
