NS grandparents pray for justice ahead of triple murder trial in Calgary

Family members in Nova Scotia are standing heart to heart with the parents and brothers of slain Alberta youngster Nathan O’Brien.

The man accused of killing five-year-old Nathan O’Brien and his maternal grandparents Alvin and Kathy Liknes goes to trial on three counts of first-degree murder this week.

A jury of 11 men and three women is to begin hearing evidence Monday. Douglas Garland, 56, was arrested following the disappearance of the Calgary couple and their grandson.


Their bodies have not been found.

The bloody crime scene at the Liknes home told a gruesome tale, officials said.

The Crown is expected to call between 50 and 60 witnesses.
